Pillow Talk

Posted by

The text from my teenage daughter was a little random, but what else is new. When you have teens, their communication style can be exactly that, random.  “Can you make me some toast?” “Who stole my shoes?” “I want a puppy.” “When are we going to Ulta?” Questions and statements of this nature are par for the course in my offspring’s digital dialogue and happen when either I am away from home or in the next room.  So when the following text came in I was both unfazed and slightly intrigued.

“Mom, we have 95 pillows. I counted.”

I’d just landed in Minneapolis for a business trip so I hurriedly texted back on my way to the cab stand, “What are you talking about?”

She repeated, this time with several exclamation points for emphasis, “We have 95 pillows!!! I counted!!!!!”

Needless to say, we have 95 pillows. She counted.

Like most addicts, I was in absolute denial. No way. That is preposterous! Who has 95 pillows?  I’d say 40 tops. Maybe 45.  Later that night as I lay in my hotel bed I visualized each room of my home in my mind and did a quick count. I got to 89.

Crap.

We probably do have 95 pillows.  How is that even possible?!?!?

Well, I am here to tell you – it is absolutely possible. And guess what? It was my birthday the following week so guess what my mom who knows me oh so well gave me for my birthday? You got it. Four more pillows she had sewn herself! (Thanks, Mom!) So yes, you got it. I now have 99 pillows.

So this blog post is devoted to my obsession with pillows. Come along with me and dive right into the comfy abyss that is my very own pillow palooza.  The first place we’ll stop is our parlor where I am constantly rearranging and restyling the pillows on our neutral Ethan Allen sofa that I had recovered a few years ago (it was formerly a floral pattern). Check out all the looks this one room can have simply by changing out the pillows.

Pretty sweet, huh? (And yes, the centerpiece on the wooden trunk serving as a coffee table switches out often, too – but the pillows have a very large impact on the style as well). After seeing how pillows can transform a space, I make no apologies for having this much flexibility at my fingertips because of this massive pillow collection.  In other words? No pillow recovery for me.  <Insert crazed cackle here.>

{Note: The floral pillow and zip code pillow above are inventory from Grace 1972 and still available for purchase. I use this sofa for photo staging often but this does illustrate how easily the look can change by switching out the pillows.}

Another room that changes often in style due to musical pillows is my home office. Here’s some photos of its pillow evolution:

You guys are definitely feeling me by this point, right?

In conclusion – here are just a few more glimpses of where all the pillows “live” in our home – well, not all of them. About 20 reside in our basement living room which is not photo ready (it’s a leather sofa and the teen hang out and often covered in more potato chip crumbs than pillows – you get my drift) and another 20 are outside in our hammock and patio furniture (with a lot of dog hair on them, I confess).  But for most intents and purposes, the bulk of pillow land exists in the following spaces of our home:

This picture is hilarious – note the knife on the floor! This pillow is Grace 1972 inventory (yes, still available for purchase!) and the night before I’d had my favorite naughty in front of the tv snack – crackers and cheese. You got it, this was my cheese knife. It must have fallen from its perch atop the vintage dresser I use as a sofa table and gone undetected during my photo shoot.  I even posted this on social media before an eagle eyed follower alerted me! Proof that yes – we do live in our home. 🙂

No cheese knife in this one – haha!

So that concludes the pillow tour.

And yes, my name is Audra and I am addicted to pillows. I suppose there are worse things to be obsessed with in this life?  The good news is that my love of pillows is reflected in my shop, Grace 1972. You can always count on a good pillow stock if you’re in the market – whether it’s your first pillow or hundredth, I know I’ll have just the cloud like comfort you’re seeking.

Thank you you for stopping by! Have a blessed weekend and may all your pillows be the cushy welcome home kind of wonderfulness that makes a house a home.

Peace, Joy and Blessings,

~Audra

Then my people will live in a peaceful habitation, And in secure dwellings and in undisturbed resting places.

P.S. Thank you for the BEE YOU TEE FULL birthday pillows, Mom! I love them!
