I’ve slowly been making progress on inserting more blue and into my formerly far too neutral main living spaces. The sun was actually shining (briefly!) in this never ending winter up here on the northern plains last week. So between conference calls I grabbed my camera, did a little last minute styling and snapped away. Here’s the progress so far . . . . .
Even though the calendar says spring, outside our windows it is still winter. But inserting a lot of faux florals helps insert some life into the space. My favorite stores for florals are Eco Chic Boutique, Burlap, Scheel’s, Pier One and Hobby Lobby. As much as I LOVE my authentic vintage tobacco basket, the burlap wreath inside it gets lost. I am on the hunt for a floral wreath . . . stay tuned.I get a lot of questions about this light fixture – Wayfair!Do you spy this adorable denim poof next to the leather chair? Home Goods – all day long. $59.This rug has a sentimental history close to my heart, but for now I’ll simply share that it is from Tuesday Morning – one of my favorite stores. The center pillow is Magnolia, the one on the left is Home Goods and the one on the right is another Tuesday Morning find. My sofa is 15 years old – it is Ethan Allen and I had it recovered about 4 years ago. (It used to be red and taupe floral!)Our main living area – wider angle. Desks make a great sofa table in large great rooms like ours. Mine is from Pier One Imports, I believe they still carry it. I purchased this one approximately four years ago. You’ll also note a little hack for adding interest if you have a piano. Ditch the bench it came with and use a padded longer version. This one is form Scheel’s, I bought it in 2012.
Yes, I stood on the black chair at the desk to take this photo . . . notice that the Magnolia wood tray is off center? This is proof I literally had 5 minutes of sun for a quick photo shoot in the middle of my work day. (Spring, where are youuuuu?!?!?)Love this bird’s eye view of this space (scroll back on the blog to see the before photos – mint green walls, a big brass fan and honey oak galore. It’s true.)This angle captures my drop cloth curtains well. These are paint drop cloths from Home Depot – just wash and dry and clip them up. Instant curtains with texture and a neutral hue that blends into any color scheme (or budget).I rarely photograph this room from this angle as . . . it’s just our tv. But everyone has one, so here’s how I styled ours.
Thanks for stopping by! I’m having a ton of fun inserting a little color into our neutral world – more updates are on the way since I snapped these photos. Can’t wait to show you guys the lamps I found and the ottoman (currently in storage) that I am having recovered . . . in what else?
True blue.
Peace, Joy and Blessings,
~Audra
